Just wanted to clear something up real quick.

I’ve posted the first preview of my upcoming new EP, and though I can gladly say everyone’s comments have been excited and welcoming of the sound of the single, I have noticed a few people saying it doesn’t have that old familiar”Backseat Goodbye” sound.

Fuck the haters. Backseat Goodbye doesn’t have a “sound” your specific releases do but not you as a songwriter. Don’t let the lame-o kids convince you that you are a genre before you are a songwriter.

And this is just another reason why I think you’re awesome, Andrew. (Thanks for reblogging the preview video yesterday, by the way - that is greatly appreciated.)

The "Backseat Goodbye" Sound.

In a way, I’m pretty sure the phrase “Backseat Goodbye sounding songs”, comes down to three different things:

1) I’ve never recorded a Backseat Goodbye song in a real studio before the release of this EP. All of my previous releases were recorded in my bedroom… so, the sound quality of my recordings were definitely nothing professional. However, that did attribute the the first bit of the BG sound. This new EP was recorded in real studios, with actual nice recording equipment,… so the first difference in what you’re hearing is that you can actually hear it :)

2) There are actual real drums recorded on these new songs, and I think that makes a huge difference. In all of my previous releases I had to use drum machines, and I think that really took a lot away from the honesty of the songs I was trying to write. So, that’s the second difference,… I think it’s a good thing because you can actually feel the drums in the songs (especially when you crank the volume), and for me, at least, it’s a good feeling to be able to move along to the drums.

3) My lyrics have “matured”. I’ve always been known for “cute” lyrics from my singles,… And I don’t think that’s a bad thing by any means, however, those “cute” songs were ones I wrote years ago. I’m 23 years old now, and trust me, I’m still a kid at heart and anyone that knows me personally knows I always will be, but needless to say I’m growing up, and though I’m moving away from writing just “cute” lyrics, I can assure you that I’ll ALWAYS write whatever comes from the bottom of my heart. So, that’s the final difference I think people will notice.

Most importantly though, I want it to be known that I know that my music stopped being just mine years ago. Nowadays, I know it’s mine AND yours. I will never abandon my fans when it comes to my growing musical aspirations. BUT, on the other side of that, it will be greatly appreciated if you all keep giving me these chances to grow as a musician, like you have with this new single. I can also assure you, you will still hear big glimpses of the older BG sound in parts of the new EP… especially on the song “Kilo Riley”. Every song on the EP is still centered around the acoustic guitar, and there’s even a song that’s a good ol’ stripped down BG song with just mandolin, drums and bass.

I’m not even sure about my point behind this post, other than to say I’m still the same kid writing music. When you hear the entire new EP, you’ll see what I mean. Though the sound quality is better, and the music and lyrics have matured in ways, you’ll still notice a familiar friend in these new Backseat Goodbye songs, I promise.

Always yours,
Chad

jeezejordan:

Everyone please help to spread the word! <3

I really love him<3

But, idk about this weird voice effect. Hope its just on this song!

It’s no voice effect… the sound quality on YouTube is pretty bad for streaming, so it makes it sound a bit weird, because actually there’s a girl singing with me on the chorus, but you can’t tell in the video clip due to the stream quality. You’ll be able to tell there’s no effect when I post the full version on Myspace :)

Backseat Goodbye - “The Great Unknown” (Preview...

Backseat Goodbye - “The Great Unknown” (Preview Clip)

On January 5th, 2010, I shall release my most ambitious musical effort to date. I have named the outcome of these efforts, The Wonder EP.

This new EP will feature 5 completely new songs, two of which were produced by Ace Enders, and three that were produced by Christopher Browder. The names I’ve given these spurts of passion called songs are below.

The Wonder EP Tracklisting:
1. The Great Unknown
2. Breakfast Club
3. New Version of the Old Me (Featuring Ace Enders)
4. Kilo Riley
5. I Like The Future

I will be sharing a preview of the first single, “The Great Unknown”, beginning this Tuesday, November 17th, exclusively on backseatgoodbye.com. Then, on November 27th, I’ll be sharing a stream of the full song on Myspace.

The EP will be available digitally on iTunes, and also physically through my online store. A special pre-sale for the EP will begin on November 27th exclusively at store.backseatgoodbye.com.

To say I’ve never been more excited about something in my life would be an understatement. I can’t wait to share this EP with you. I’ll begin sharing a lot more info about the single and release over the next week, so be on the lookout. And don’t forget to visit backseatgoodbye.com on Tuesday to catch a first glimpse at the EP with the preview of the single!

Cheers,
Chad

P.S. - Please feel free to let me know what you think of the cover art, title, and tracklisting in the comments section just below!

If I asked nicely...

would you Tumblr friends be willing to help me promote my new EP I’ll be announcing tomorrow?

Here’s a quick flyer I designed real quick for my upcoming...

Here’s a quick flyer I designed real quick for my upcoming December tour, feel free to pass it around!

Sigh of relief.

I finally have my fully-functional MacBook in front of me again (after over two weeks of it being in laptop purgatory.) Needless to say, I’ve got a lot to catch up on.

However, one of my first priorities isn’t to catch up for myself, but to catch you all up. I’m very glad to share that this Sunday (at Noon CST) I will be announcing the first details about my upcoming new EP I’ve been talking about for so long! For starters, I’ll be sharing the EP’s title, cover, and official digital & physical release date. Also, I’ll be announcing when you’ll get your first glimpse at the first single from the EP!

I know it’s been a LONG wait, but I really promise that I truly believe I’m bringing something special to the table with this EP. Ace Enders and Christopher Browder really helped me tap into this ‘potential’ all the reviewers have mentioned I have in past reviews of my old albums. But I’ll save all this excitement talk for later when you all have the EP title, cover, and release date to help grasp onto what I’m talking about.

See you Sunday!

Lol.
ikilleddumbly:

Chad is such a joke now.

Just curious,… Why am I such a joke now?

You totally treat yoru fans like you are too good for them. I met you once when you first started out, totally sweet, really chill.

I met you again back when you were in ATL and you were cold, and not chill.

Really? What point in the night did we meet?… I can fully assure that I DON’T think I’m better than anyone. Trust me, if I didn’t give a shit, then I wouldn’t have responded to your original post…. the fact of the matter is, I really do give a shit, and I really feel like an ass when people think that I think I’m better than them.

If you’re talking about my most recent show in GA (in October) I can tell you that I was literally in my second straight week of being sick with Pharyngitis (which is basically a severe sore throat)… and had already had to sing every night for the week and a half before that with the sickness… so my throat was hurting like hell. If you’re not talking about that show, regardless, I apologize that I seemed for any reason like I didn’t care… a lot of things happen on tour, every night there’s new problems that arise at each venue and I have to do a good bit of running around to make sure things go right (so, I can be pretty scatterbrained at times.)

Long story short, I apologize for seeming like a douche the last time we met. I promise from the day I started this project years ago I have done my absolute best to make sure to treat the awesome people that listen to my music the same. You probably don’t believe me at all, but I really do give a damn, and I am sincerely sorry.

(Sorry for the book length response)

I’m glad you don’t. I’m glad you aren’t becoming one of the many artists that changes as they go. I assumed. And I was wrong for that. I’m incredibly sorry.

I was, and I’m sorry you were sick. And I totally understand that you are a real person who gets sick. Like I said, I’m sorry for assuming.

And I do believe you, I have infact listened to you for a while now, that’s why I cared enough to reply back to you. Actually, to be completely honest, I was surprised that you replied, leave it to the internet to always have thrills.

I’m glad you care, and once again I am incredibly sorry for this.

No need to apologize, there are no hard feelings here,… but thank you for understanding :)

Patience is a virtue.

It’s been too long since I’ve released new music into the world.

Just wanted to say that I’ll be bringing info about my new EP release your way soon, so be on the lookout. And I promise it will be worth the wait.

Live in Marietta, GA. So please, don’t waste yours and everyone else’s time by continuing to release un-inspired music. I mean really, it’s your lives, and I have no place to impart my own thoughts… but if I could for some reason make any of you I’m speaking of realize that you’re actually back-peddling today’s music scene by not even trying, then this is worth it. The only reason I get so upset about this, is because it really seems like you all aren’t even trying to push yourselves as musicians, songwriters, role models. I’m hearing song after song these days that sound exactly the same from different artists. So, do me a favor, right now, go listen to an old Bob Dylan record until your ears bleed. Spin a Johnny Cash album on repeat. Throw in an Elvis Presley disc and just listen. Just please, do something to gain some perspective. This is YOUR chance to make your mark on the world, to change lives, to bring people together by the power of song…

Open your eyes, and please realize that music isn’t just a way for you to get laid, make money, and get famous… it’s actually an amazing thing that gives hope and speaks to the entire world with one voice. Please stop singing from just your lungs, and start singing from your souls.

P.S. - This is by no means directed at everyone in the industry. There are SO many kids out there that are doing things the right way… making good music that comes from every inch of their music drenched hearts. They’re humble, brave, and everything you could want an artist to be. The above paragraphs are ONLY directed at a select few artists that I feel just do not understand what it means to make music for the right reasons. Trust me, I know there are so many of you out there that are making music for the right reasons… and to all of you, I’d just like to say a very sincere thank you.

Trust me on the sunscreen...

A tour update shall begin,… now.

Thus far, the tour has had its ups and downs. The ups: great shows with great people coming out to sing along in VT, NJ, PA, OH, MI, & IL. The downs: I’ve come down with a nice little cold or something, so my throat has been fighting me for the last 5 or so shows (sorry to those of you that have had to deal with my voice at your stops… I know you all say you can’t even tell my voice is messed up, but I can, so I kind of eat at myself when this happens. I just like my voice to be in top shape all the time, so when it’s not, I just constantly think of how I want it to get better fast.)

Aside from that, the only other “down” of the tour is that the Alsip and St. Louis shows got randomly cancelled back to back. The thing is, shows get cancelled, it sucks, but it happens. I was pretty upset about how the Alsip show got cancelled because all of us on the tour didn’t find out it actually was dropped until the day of the show. We got a call saying that the venue decided to have our show bought out and dropped so they could have a party there. On a side note, the STL show was cancelled because of a mis-communication on the booking end. The show seems to have been double booked at the venue in STL. Regardless, for both cancelled shows, don’t fret if you were one of the ones planning to attend one of those, because I’ll be back through both areas on tour in December.

Back to some more up-sides to the tour. The guys in Goot are great. We’ve all gotten along super well, and it’s always awesome when you and the people you’re on tour with just click in a good way. Right now I’ve got them over at my apartment enjoying some small down-time with DVDs downstairs while I work on EP release plans, and get caught up on some emails and this blog. We’ve had yesterday and today off in between our Louisville, KY show, so it’s been a good time for me to rest my voice. Also, yesterday I finally managed to pick up a memory card & reader for my camcorder,… so now I can finally upload videos to my MacBook. So, expect many more videos and video updates from me.

One last tour mention before I head of to the personal stuff… thank you to all of you who have welcomed my live band with open arms. I’ve been so amazed at how welcome a full band setting has been, even in front of those of you that have been to my shows before. I’m quite excited to know I made the right choice by finally bringing along friends to help bring my songs to life the way they should be in a live setting.

Oh! I’ve been surprised by how many people want to hear what I thought of the new movie Where The Wild Things Are. So, here you go. The movie, itself, is a great one. It’s unlike any “childrens” movie I’ve ever seen before. It’s dark, beautiful, philosophical, hopeful, haunting, and visually stunning. If I had to give it a review that didn’t include my own personal hype in mind, I would give it two thumbs way up. However, I must say, that when I think of the movie from a personal hype level… I think I overhyped it in my own head a bit too much. I’ve been literally counting down every day to this movie for the last two months, and I’ve been a lover of the book since I was a child. So I ended up setting the bar way too high for the movie, as far as my own personal expectations go. I really do believe that when I see the movie for a second time, I’m going to enjoy it much more now that I’ve got my own expectations out of the way. Because, most of the time during my first viewing of it, I was too busy with my own thoughts of what would happen. But like I said previously, Where The Wild Things Are is a great movie. Don’t worry about the hype, don’t worry about other people’s reviews, just go into the theater and get lost in the story before your eyes, and you won’t be let down.

By the way, here’s a glimpse of what I’ve been listening to lately:
Paramore - brand new eyes | Michael Buble’ - Crazy Love | Phoenix | La Roux - La Roux | John Mayer - Who Says

And here are some photos for ya:

Cheers,
Chad

P.S. - See, I told you all I was finally turning this into a real blog. Also, so you know, I’m making it a point to keep up with all the comments left here.
