Trust me on the sunscreen...

A tour update shall begin,… now.

Thus far, the tour has had its ups and downs. The ups: great shows with great people coming out to sing along in VT, NJ, PA, OH, MI, & IL. The downs: I’ve come down with a nice little cold or something, so my throat has been fighting me for the last 5 or so shows (sorry to those of you that have had to deal with my voice at your stops… I know you all say you can’t even tell my voice is messed up, but I can, so I kind of eat at myself when this happens. I just like my voice to be in top shape all the time, so when it’s not, I just constantly think of how I want it to get better fast.)

Aside from that, the only other “down” of the tour is that the Alsip and St. Louis shows got randomly cancelled back to back. The thing is, shows get cancelled, it sucks, but it happens. I was pretty upset about how the Alsip show got cancelled because all of us on the tour didn’t find out it actually was dropped until the day of the show. We got a call saying that the venue decided to have our show bought out and dropped so they could have a party there. On a side note, the STL show was cancelled because of a mis-communication on the booking end. The show seems to have been double booked at the venue in STL. Regardless, for both cancelled shows, don’t fret if you were one of the ones planning to attend one of those, because I’ll be back through both areas on tour in December.

Back to some more up-sides to the tour. The guys in Goot are great. We’ve all gotten along super well, and it’s always awesome when you and the people you’re on tour with just click in a good way. Right now I’ve got them over at my apartment enjoying some small down-time with DVDs downstairs while I work on EP release plans, and get caught up on some emails and this blog. We’ve had yesterday and today off in between our Louisville, KY show, so it’s been a good time for me to rest my voice. Also, yesterday I finally managed to pick up a memory card & reader for my camcorder,… so now I can finally upload videos to my MacBook. So, expect many more videos and video updates from me.

One last tour mention before I head of to the personal stuff… thank you to all of you who have welcomed my live band with open arms. I’ve been so amazed at how welcome a full band setting has been, even in front of those of you that have been to my shows before. I’m quite excited to know I made the right choice by finally bringing along friends to help bring my songs to life the way they should be in a live setting.

Oh! I’ve been surprised by how many people want to hear what I thought of the new movie Where The Wild Things Are. So, here you go. The movie, itself, is a great one. It’s unlike any “childrens” movie I’ve ever seen before. It’s dark, beautiful, philosophical, hopeful, haunting, and visually stunning. If I had to give it a review that didn’t include my own personal hype in mind, I would give it two thumbs way up. However, I must say, that when I think of the movie from a personal hype level… I think I overhyped it in my own head a bit too much. I’ve been literally counting down every day to this movie for the last two months, and I’ve been a lover of the book since I was a child. So I ended up setting the bar way too high for the movie, as far as my own personal expectations go. I really do believe that when I see the movie for a second time, I’m going to enjoy it much more now that I’ve got my own expectations out of the way. Because, most of the time during my first viewing of it, I was too busy with my own thoughts of what would happen. But like I said previously, Where The Wild Things Are is a great movie. Don’t worry about the hype, don’t worry about other people’s reviews, just go into the theater and get lost in the story before your eyes, and you won’t be let down.

By the way, here’s a glimpse of what I’ve been listening to lately:
Paramore - brand new eyes | Michael Buble’ - Crazy Love | Phoenix | La Roux - La Roux | John Mayer - Who Says

And here are some photos for ya:

Cheers,
Chad

P.S. - See, I told you all I was finally turning this into a real blog. Also, so you know, I’m making it a point to keep up with all the comments left here. 7 Weeks.

I’m in the middle of enjoying a day off in Akron, OH now. Show #5 of the BG/Goot tour is tomorrow in Cleveland. Before the show I’ve finally got plans to do a bit of tour shopping; the weather has turned for the much colder side of things, and my body hasn’t liked it. So, we’re all gonna make some stops by Target & American Apparel before the show to pick up some warmer clothes.

Yesterday I started feeling a good bit under the weather, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to fight off a full blown sickness before it gets worse. My throat’s killing me, but it has been for the last two weeks, due to the amount of singing I’ve been doing to get ready for/start the tour. All in all, I’m just trying to be a bit smarter about warming up my voice and all that good stuff, so that by this time next week instead of complaining about my throat hurting, I can brag about how much it doesn’t.

The shows have gone great so far. The crowd in Wilkes-Barre completely killed it last night. Robb from ShakeNShout Shades came out for the first two shows as well. A big thanks goes out to him for joining in for the first few. Be sure to check out his sunglasses @ shakenshout.storenvy.com.

10.16 Rochester American Legion Hall - Rochester MI

Busy. Busy. Busy.

So much to do today, so little time.

I head out for tour tonight. The guys and I are gonna wait to see the new episode of The Office, of course, then leave on our 14 hour trek to Poughkeepsie, NY to meet up with Goot tomorrow afternoon. A day of hanging out will be had once we arrive, then we’ll head to Vermont for the first show of the tour on Saturday.

Before we leave I still need to pack (haven’t done one bit yet) and go get buy new strings, picks, some other tour necessities, and a new pair of shoes so my feet don’t freeze in my TOMS when it starts to get super cold in the northern parts of the tour. I’m supposed to be at the last day of live rehearsals with the new live band by 3pm, and it takes an hour to get where I have to meet them at. So, I should probably stop procrastinating and get to this stuff.

My only point of this was to say (like I semi-mentioned before) that I’m going to start actually using this as a real blog, instead of just a place where I post random photos and boring stuff. I’m gonna try to start this right by properly documenting the October tour, so we’ll see how well I’ll do with keeping up.

A Change In Scenery.

Decided my blog needed a new look. I’ve always been a fan of simple design,… plus I’m planning on actually using this to write some real blogs from here on out, so I abandoned the slim style of my old blog, and widened the little guy to hopefully fit more cool stuff on a page…or more uncool stuff.

I’ve also updated the comments section so it’s easier to navigate… so feel free to leave a little love every now and then, I’ll be on the lookout :)

My hero. (E.T., that is)

My hero. (E.T., that is)

Full Live Band Announcement.

I wanted to address this directly, so everyone will know the specifics…
beginning with my October tour, I will be adding a full band for my live shows. The thing I wanted to make clear though, was this,… I will still be writing every part of every Backseat Goodbye song you ever hear. The new live band members will literally only be for live shows, they’re not official members of the band, they’re just awesome dudes coming along on tour with me to play bass & drums to make my live shows more fun.

I’ve toured solo for the last five years, and it’s been great (and don’t worry, I’ll still be working solo parts into my shows every single night), but I’ve finally decided it’s time to take my live show up a big step. I can also assure you that just because I’m adding a full live band, that does NOT mean that I’ll be making all of my songs electric or distorted… no no, I’ll still be playing my trusty acoustic on stage for every song… the only difference will be that the songs will actually sound like my recordings instead of stripped down solo versions.

Also, this decision was made by me,… not businessmen behind the curtiain. I’ve wanted to add a full live band for quite some time now, I just feel that the time was ever right until now. I really can’t wait to share this new live show with you. If you’ve ever been to a show of mine before, expect that, except 100 times more fun. My last main point from this, for anyone that’s worried I’ll be changing with this full live band…. don’t worry, I’m still going to be the same guy on stage with an acoustic guitar, singing at the top of his lungs about the good things, except now I’ll just have a couple friends on stage with me to help us all sings these songs a little louder to remind ourselves we’re still alive.

A new adventure begins.

In about 30 minutes I’ll be heading out to Mt. Juliet, TN to change up the history of my music a bit. I’ll save the specifics for later today. Until then…

Philippines Help.

For those that might not know, there’s terrible flooding happening in the Philippines right now, and over 300,000 people have been displaced from their homes. You may think any help you can give may not be much, but trust me, any little thing donated to this nation right now will help in a huge way.

You can donate directly to the Philippine National Red Cross @ www.redcross.org.ph/Site/PNRC/wtd.aspx.

If you can’t donate anything, then please feel free to help spread this link along so others can.
