I just made a page on DailyBooth. I’m not sure if I’ll actually use it, but I think it may be a cool place where I might post daily tour photos or something. Follow me there @ dailybooth.com/backseatgoodbye.
The Great Unknown Lyrics.
This coming Friday, November 27th, I’ll be debuting the full version of “The Great Unknown”, the first single from my upcoming new EP, The Wonder. So, I thought I’d go ahead and share the full lyrics to the song with you all now…
Here you go:
The Great Unknown
So what, you’ve got a lot of nerve, don’t you? Wrapped up in a silhouette of light. I think I heard you say “The world is ending.” Guess not, ‘cause we’re both still alive. Do you remember when September was living? Yeah, the heart of life was still good to go. No one could touch us. We were living a dream, and we liked our music acoustic, pretty, and slow. I’m through trying to like the lightning. Something’s gone, but finally I can see. You might be my last chance at a good thing. Bring back the way they looked at us when we picked up guitars and learned to cuss. This is our year, we can do what we want. Making history no one will see in a parking lot. Sometimes I make a list of the things I don’t get right, a complicated dream of the scenes my mind made up. Did you lie when you said you missed me? Let’s all drop this wish somehow. I’ll be fine, I promise. I’m through trying to like the lightning. Something’s gone, but finally I can see you’re a good thing. You might be my last chance at a good thing. You might be my last chance.
Be sure to catch the debut of the full version of the song this Friday, the 27th

The "Backseat Goodbye" Sound.
Just wanted to clear something up real quick.
I’ve posted the first preview of my upcoming new EP, and though I can gladly say everyone’s comments have been excited and welcoming of the sound of the single, I have noticed a few people saying it doesn’t have that old familiar”Backseat Goodbye” sound.
In a way, I’m pretty sure the phrase “Backseat Goodbye sounding songs”, comes down to three different things:
1) I’ve never recorded a Backseat Goodbye song in a real studio before the release of this EP. All of my previous releases were recorded in my bedroom… so, the sound quality of my recordings were definitely nothing professional. However, that did attribute the the first bit of the BG sound. This new EP was recorded in real studios, with actual nice recording equipment,… so the first difference in what you’re hearing is that you can actually hear it :)
2) There are actual real drums recorded on these new songs, and I think that makes a huge difference. In all of my previous releases I had to use drum machines, and I think that really took a lot away from the honesty of the songs I was trying to write. So, that’s the second difference,… I think it’s a good thing because you can actually feel the drums in the songs (especially when you crank the volume), and for me, at least, it’s a good feeling to be able to move along to the drums.
3) My lyrics have “matured”. I’ve always been known for “cute” lyrics from my singles,… And I don’t think that’s a bad thing by any means, however, those “cute” songs were ones I wrote years ago. I’m 23 years old now, and trust me, I’m still a kid at heart and anyone that knows me personally knows I always will be, but needless to say I’m growing up, and though I’m moving away from writing just “cute” lyrics, I can assure you that I’ll ALWAYS write whatever comes from the bottom of my heart. So, that’s the final difference I think people will notice.
Most importantly though, I want it to be known that I know that my music stopped being just mine years ago. Nowadays, I know it’s mine AND yours. I will never abandon my fans when it comes to my growing musical aspirations. BUT, on the other side of that, it will be greatly appreciated if you all keep giving me these chances to grow as a musician, like you have with this new single. I can also assure you, you will still hear big glimpses of the older BG sound in parts of the new EP… especially on the song “Kilo Riley”. Every song on the EP is still centered around the acoustic guitar, and there’s even a song that’s a good ol’ stripped down BG song with just mandolin, drums and bass.
I’m not even sure about my point behind this post, other than to say I’m still the same kid writing music. When you hear the entire new EP, you’ll see what I mean. Though the sound quality is better, and the music and lyrics have matured in ways, you’ll still notice a familiar friend in these new Backseat Goodbye songs, I promise.
Always yours,
Chad
